Texas A&M University – Commerce Tactical Performance and Resilience Certificate Program provides exam preparation resources and instruction for those interested in earning the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s NCCA-accredited Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator® TSAC-F® certification. It also includes full support, professional resources, and professional development opportunities for those interested in becoming a tactical strength and conditioning coach.
Those who complete this certificate program and earn the NSCA TSAC-F® certification will be prepared to successfully apply scientific knowledge to physically train military, fire and rescue, law enforcement, protective services, and other emergency personnel to improve performance, promote wellness, and decrease injury risk. They will also be prepared to conduct needs analyses and physical testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and provide general information regarding nutrition.
Certificate Program Courses
The program is divided into 4 courses:
Course 1 – Basics of Tactical Strength and Conditioning
Students will explore concepts of biomechanics, muscle anatomy, adaptations to exercise, bioenergetics, and nutrition as it applies to the tactical athlete.
Course 2 – Injury, Illness, and Disease within the Tactical Population
Students will observe the current health status of professionals that work in firefighting, law enforcement, and military settings. Students will also explore current areas for concern and potential risk factors for injury, illness, and disease in a tactical setting.
Course 3 – Testing and Evaluation of the Tactical Population
Students will explore different methods of assessing the physical fitness and current fitness status of tactical professionals and learn the in-field application considerations of those assessments.
Course 4 – Programming and Training Methodology of the Tactical Population
Students will learn physical fitness training methodology that results in transferable skills to job- related tasks of the tactical athlete. Students will also learn proper methods of exercise instruction and cueing of movements, programming considerations for strength and conditioning programs, and programming or instruction modifications based on personnel abilities and available resources.
Coursework focuses on textbook curriculum, in-field application discussions, current practitioner expertise sessions, in-field demonstration videos, and certification exam preparation.
All students are required to complete Course 1 in order to complete the remaining courses.
Course 1 & 2 can be completed concurrently.
Courses will be taught in a 7-week format, 1-2 / 3-4 rotation, where two courses are taught per 7-week session
All student must register for TSAC-F Certification exam prior to enrolling in Course 4.
